Bash, What Is It With Your Hashtag Notes?
I knew it would only be a matter of time before someone asked about the new format I’ve chosen for my social media platforms. If you’ve been following me for a while, you now see that my pages are sprinkled with reminders and notes to beauty professionals and entrepreneurs in general. They’re just blurbs of encouragement, advice, or beauty trends that people can use in their businesses or daily lives.
My motivation behind this is fueled by my desire to see everyone succeed in their endeavors. There is SO much competition and envy and criticism. It’s draining; there is enough room for everyone to succeed. My latest blurb stated, “Not everyone is your customer.” The thought came from a conversation I was having with a fellow lasher who had the most indignant client, by her reports. She was putting up with some pretty intolerable behavior in order to make a buck. I had to tell her it wasn’t worth it and it’s okay to end the relationship. Not everyone is your customer.
One of my #EntrepreneursNote blurbs stated, “You should totally do it.” This came from the countless times I’ve talked myself out of taking risks or trying new things due to various reasons. It is also partial to those entrepreneurs who find themselves stuck because they are afraid to gamble on themselves. I understand that in taking risks, one has to consider many variables and outcomes, but sometimes we have to throw caution to the wind and have some faith in our abilities. Failure is just a lesson that leaves us wiser. Now, that’s not to say go spend your retirement savings on the Lock Family (Mama’s Family, 1989), but an investment in you is not a bad thing, in my humble opinion of course.
I have also included beauty specific blurbs related to lashes and brows. They mostly contain information or encouraging words specific to those disciplines. Much of it is common knowledge within those communities, but you never know who may need an uplifting word. I try to stay away from widespread cliché phrases as they tend lose value the more popular they become, but sometimes coming up with fresh material proves to be somewhat challenging. I usually just draw from my personal thoughts and challenges I face with business development and operation. I have literally, at one point or another, had to tell myself the very things I put in my blurbs.
Often, I have individual conversations with people and when I share my experiences they are grateful for my transparency while identifying their own personal similarities. They find it refreshing for someone to be so upfront and open since so often in the beauty industry we find people who are hoarding common knowledge as if it’s proprietary.
At the end of the day I want to see everyone succeed, even those wanting me to fail. Something I’ve said before, I’ll say again; there are more than enough butts, brows, lashes, legs, and faces for us all.
